Outstanding Reference Source

I checked this book out of our local library and was so impressed with the information provided I had to purchase. Found an excellent used copy through Amazon. If you are interested in what you are taking into your body- then you will find this Encyclopedia a very valuable tool. The author offers descriptions that include traditonal medicinal and nutritive benefits of whole foods and in addition- their relation to the Ayurvedic system of health. I found the author's personal asides and recipe suggestions a charming bonus- this New Whole Foods Encyclopedia by no means reads like a dry reference tome but more along the lines of a compendium of excellent information compiled by an old friend.

Not what I was expecting

I was hoping for more information along the lines of specific nutritional content and colored photographs. A little too brief for me. It's a good general resource, but I think I prefer World's Healthiest Foods by George Mateljan.

great coverage of food by type

i like this book because it was everything i was looking for. it lists each type of produce, herb, oils and more in alphabetical order. the book is easy to navigate and Rebecca Wood is clear and concise in her descriptions. i would suggest making sure you read the intro pages first, otherwise you will confused when she describes foods in certain ways. i would definitely recommend this to others.
